Summary/Abstract: This paper examines a 1638–1639 episode on the Ottoman–Habsburg frontier as narrated by the Ottoman historian Na‘ima. Centered on the capture and exchange of a Habsburg officer near Bihać, the account reveals tensions among Bosnian frontier lords, provincial officials, and the imperial court, as well as the persistence of Kleinkrieg (small war) during formal peace. A close reading of Na‘ima’s narrative also shows how the chronicler framed the resolution of the conflict as evidence of effective imperial justice. The paper isolates a specific case useful for future comparative research based on Ottoman, Habsburg, and local documentary materials.
