THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem addressed in the paper is the political myth of Austria-Hungary and its internal diversity. The authors use the method of constructing types as the most frequently recurring varieties of myth. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The authors compare the ideas of the most famous proponents of each myth. RESEARCH RESULTS: As a result of their argument, the authors identify three basic types of the political myth of Austria-Hungary: the romantic (or nostalgic) type, the apologetic type, and the palingenetic (or revival) type. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: This preliminary typology of political myths of Austria-Hungary is an innovation previously absent from the literature on the subject. The authors recommend that the proposed typology be discussed in order to formulate better or alternative typologies.
