Summary/Abstract: This article examines the attitudes of British officers towards the Reichswehr, identifying varying degrees of sympathy towards the German armed forces during the 1930s. While the attempt to assess the German military and strategic threat proved especially difficult, a clear bias towards German positions can be identified. It was only gradually after the dissolution of the armed forces known as the Reichswehr in 1935 that a more realistic picture of the military danger posed by the Wehrmacht began to take hold. But many British officers proved remarkably slow in recognising the danger of the German armed forces.
