Summary/Abstract: The basic poetic, dramaturgical and genre features of Tašana play by Borisav Bora Stanković were analyzed and the Christian subtext of the plot was pointed out (redemption of sins through sacrifice for another, for the mentally ill Paraputa) in this paper. The reception of theater criticism was interpreted from the theatrical and literary historical perspective. Criticism did not notice the important dramaturgical features of the play, its direction towards a more modern form (dramaturgy of the situation) and the layers of meaning of the action (knowledge of God, joy in service, transformation of the character). Moreover, attention was drawn to the fact that the first setting did not bring an integral text, i.e. that the final fifth act was not performed, which significantly directed the reception of criticism, and it had an influence on later theater historians. The second setting also included the fifth act of the play, which completes the meaning of the action, but the integrally performed text did not change the aesthetic judgments of critics to a greater extent. The paper also points out Stanković’s contribution to the development of modern dramatic script.
