Summary/Abstract: The issue of feminisation emerges even at the level of the translational act itself, and the challenges it entails are further intensified when the translation process involves a source language characterised by a higher degree of grammatical gender marking (Romanian) and a target language in which such marking is comparatively less pervasive (French). This study seeks to examine the theoretical and practical challenges associated with the translation of gender markers in legal texts from French into Romanian, drawing on the notion of terminological sexism (Lessard; Zaccour) as well as on theories of gender stereotyping. Gender can be understood as the social and cultural constructs that distinguish women and men according to physical, biological, sexual, and most importantly, socially defined roles. Adopting a comparative analytical framework and relying on a corpus of case studies, the research interrogates the linguistic, juridical, and socio-discursive implications of gender representation in legal translation. Particular attention is paid to the tension between formal equivalence and ideological positioning in translation choices, as well as to the translator’s role in mediating between normative legal language and evolving paradigms of gender-inclusive discourse. The study ultimately aims to formulate theoretically grounded recommendations for legal translators, taking into account contemporary shifts in inclusive language practices and the imperative of terminological equity.
