Summary/Abstract: This study re-examines myth as a mode of structuring meaning. Starting from recent theoretical reassessments and from major corpora of the Ancient Near East, it argues that myth operates as analogical thinking, symbolic narration, and cultural memory. The analysis examines the way myth articulates cosmic order, kingship, crisis, and death in Egypt, Mesopotamia, Anatolia, and Ugarit, as well as the manner in which the Hebrew Bible appropriates, reshapes, and theologically recodes a broader repertoire of themes characteristic of the literature of the ancient Near East. The central claim IS THAT myth should be read simultaneously as a structure of relations, as a language of culture, and as a historically situated interpretive act.
