Summary/Abstract: This article examines the applicability of the concept of “myth” to the biblical Flood narrative (Genesis 6-9) from a philological and comparative-literary perspective. Drawing on definitions proposed by Eliade and Ricoeur, the study undertakes a comparative analysis of Mesopotamian flood traditions and the Genesis account. While identifying substantial structural parallels, the article argues that the biblical text transforms the mythic pattern through polemical rewriting, ethical monotheism, and integration into a linear narrative framework. The term “myth” remains a legitimate philological descriptor, provided it is rigorously defined.
