Summary/Abstract: This article offers a critical analysis of the monograph Documentary Evidence of National Music in European Culture(16th-20th Centuries), authored by Victor Ghilaş, highlighting its contribution to Romanian musical historiography. Drawingon an extensive documentary corpus (tablatures, travel journals, correspondence, chronicles, press materials, musical scores), the study reconstructs the circulation of Romanian music within the European cultural space, from its earliest attestations inthe 16th-17th centuries (such as the Codex Vietoris) to its valorization by prestigious composers – Franz Joseph Sulzer, FranzLiszt, George Enescu, Béla Bartók, and other Eastern European composers. The analysis reveals the author’s methodological rigor, his capacity to correlate and critically interpret heterogeneous sources, as well as the merit of having recovered and valorized external testimonies that had, until now, remained marginal in domestic research.
