Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the issue of constructing artistic myths in contemporary society. The study emphasizes the role ofsymbolic capital, cultural institutions, critics, and mass media in the validation of works and artists, including those that donot meet objective aesthetic criteria. It examines the dimensions of self-mythologization strategies as well as artistic canonization. The processes of recognition and social validation amplify the dissonance between intrinsic aesthetic value and attributedsymbolic value. Consequently, artistic myths become instruments mediating between the creator, institutions, and the public, shaping cultural memory and collective perceptions of art. The article highlights the necessity of continuous critical evaluation, capable of distinguishing the authenticity of aesthetic value from the legitimacy conferred through symbolic capital.
