Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present how service management theory can be applied to the analysis of contemporary art therapy practices. The author argues that although art therapy is deeply rooted in mental health contexts, it can be understood and enhanced as a complex, relational, and co-created service by using concepts developed in the field of management and quality sciences. The article introduces a seven-parameter analytical model that helps classify and interpret innovative art therapy practices across dimensions such as type of service, nature of innovation, client involvement, value delivered, implementation context, degree of novelty, and use of technology. This model is then applied to five of the most cited art therapy services published in the prestigious journal Art Therapy. The article highlights key service management concepts such as service experience, value co-creation, moment of truth, service design, and professional distance. Findings confirm that art therapy can benefit significantly from the tools and frameworks of service management, leading to greater professionalization, improved therapeutic service design, and more accurate evaluation of outcomes. The article is interdisciplinary and exploratory in nature, bridging the gap between mental health practice and service science.
