Summary/Abstract: Psychological research devotes much attention to the subject of the body and its perceived attractiveness, including in minority groups (Moradi, Rottenstein, 2007). In the group of women with hearing loss, the body is a tool for communication mediated by gestures and facial expressions. Perceptions of one's corporeality can also be influenced by cultural identity, which involves social beliefs about the body held by the d/Deaf minority. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether women with hearing loss are at risk for reduced functional body image assessment. The study used the Functionality Appreciation Scale (Alleva, 2017) and Deaf Acculturation Scale (Birman, Zea, 2010) questionnaires in Polish and in PJM translation. The results of the study revealed a relationship between acculturation attitudes to hearing culture and experienced body image and correlation between proficiency in Polish and acculturation attitudes to hearing and Deaf culture. Based on the results, hearing identity can be a protective factor for negative functional body image. The relationship of acculturation attitude and use of visuospatial language to satisfaction with body ability should be analyzed in future studies with other factors, such as the level of interoceptive awareness and the degree of internalization of cultural norms.
