Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the poetry collection Seosko groblje, which originated in the later phase of Ćopić’s creative work. The analysis of the poems is based on Bakhtin’s theoretical considerations of carnival culture. The concept of carnival is closely related to folk culture, traces of which can be recognized in the poems of Ćopić’s collection. Additionally, the coordinates of the chronotope are explored, which significantly shape the image of the world in the poems. The aim of the study is to determine, first, to what extent the poems possess the poetic features of carnival, and then whether they carry its semantics. In doing so, we bear in mind that the verses of the collection convey a distinct, characteristically Ćopić-esque worldview: manifestly merry, entertaining, yet at its core melancholic and profoundly thoughtful.
