ANALYSIS OF METAL INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT TRENDS IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

Summary/Abstract: The metal industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina has a long-standing significant tradition and has continuously represented one of the most important sectors of the economy in the past period, generating positive macroeconomic effects. Like any other sector of the economy, the metal sector has its strengths and weaknesses, as well as challenges that it continuously faces, especially due to the fact that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a small open economy that necessarily has to adapt to external economic trends. In this sense, the goal of this research is to show whether and to what extent changes in the development of the metal sector and companies within this sector contribute to the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Production, employment, foreign direct investments, import and export of the metal sector in BiH will be used as elements of the development of the metal sector. The importance of the metal sector for the BiH economy was analyzed using linear trend analysis, in order to assess the trends of the aforementioned determinants of the development of the metal industry in BiH and its importance for the overall BiH economy in the period from 2012 to 2022. In addition, after evaluating the trend equation and checking the representativeness of the model, an assessment of production, employment, foreign direct investments, imports and exports of the metal sector in BiH for the period from 2023 to 2030 was made. After analyzing the trend of key determinants that show the development of the metal industry in BiH, with the application of the focus group method, and with secondary research, we created a SWOT matrix of the metal industry in BiH, and we assessed the stimulating and limiting factors for the development of the metal industry in BiH.
