Summary/Abstract: In the current context of language teaching centered on communication and intercultural competence, fantasy emerges as a powerful driver of motivation and creativity among learners. This paper aims to examine the pedagogical functions of fantasy in the French as a Foreign Language (FLE) classroom at the high school level, focusing on its role in meaning-making, personal expression, and the enhancement of the imaginary. Drawing on examples of didactic sequences that integrate creative activities (fictional writing, role-playing, multimodal production), we will analyze how the introduction of a «whimsical detour» allows students to transcend linguistic constraints to achieve more authentic and free-flowing speech. This study adopts a qualitative approach, combining classroom observation with the analysis of student productions. It seeks to demonstrate that fantasy, far from being a mere playful ornament, constitutes an essential didactic lever for developing expressive skills, self-confidence, and the joy of learning French.
