Summary/Abstract: The importance of calque (or loan translation) is evident in that a contemporary Romanian jargon has developed in relatively recent years, particularly among young people, in the media and among journalists, as well as among politicians. This paper aims to present, in the opening section, a brief typology of calque in the Romanian language, followed by a few insights into the domain-specific application of the main types of calque. From the abundance of examples, we have selected a few of the most compelling ones – especially with the idea that, even if incorrect or humorous, some contain, to a fairly high degree, nuances of linguistic imagination, even if unintentionally. The paper has not proposed to analyze the possible normative implications of the material under scrutiny, otherwise than incidentally.
