Summary/Abstract: In 'Never Let Me Go', Kazuo Ishiguro mixes realism and fantasy with the purpose of analysing memory and the moral imagination. The novel’s intricate plot – clones raised for organ harvesting – has the role of a blueprint for the exploration of human emotions and ethical reflection. The author’s use of phantasia enables the readers to enter the characters’ inner lives, where imagination exposes the issues of mortality, identity, and love. The novel demonstrates that ethical and emotional approaches can surface from the most understated forms of storytelling.
