Summary/Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the European Union’s security-oriented migration policies from a human rights perspective. The acceleration of migration movements in the process of globalization is addressed not only as a reflection of economic or demographic dynamics but also as an expression of the human quest for dignity, freedom, security, and equality. In this context, the study questions the extent to which security-based approaches to migration management align with human rights principles and focuses particularly on the inconsistencies between the European Union’s normative values and its practical implementations. Adopting a qualitative research design, the study employs document analysis to examine the 1951 Geneva Convention, EU policy papers, international reports, and recent academic literature. The findings reveal that following the 2015 Refugee Crisis, the Union’s externalization strategies, border control measures, and violations of the non-refoulement principle have undermined its normative identity. Despite maintaining a human rights discourse, security- and deterrence-oriented policies have become predominant in practice. Consequently, the study concludes that sustainable migration governance requires replacing security-centered approaches with a rights-based model grounded in human dignity, solidarity, and international cooperation.
