Summary/Abstract: This study examines the effects of Türkiye’s non-tariff protectionist trade policies, particularly those implemented after its 1996 Customs Union membership, on selected industrial sectors. While the global discourse often promotes trade liberalization, many countries—including Türkiye—have adopted sector-specific protectionist tools such as anti-dumping duties, additional customs taxes, and surveillance measures. Focusing on the textile, footwear, furniture, spare parts, and rubber sectors, the study investigates whether such policies have led to origin-diverting trade effects between EU member states and third countries. Using the DiD methodology, the research analyses changes in trade flows by sector and country, highlighting the distortionary role of non-tariff measures in international trade structure. The selection of sectors reflects Türkiye’s dual position as both an importer and exporter, with asymmetric trade policy practices toward EU and non-EU countries. The findings contribute to the literature by offering empirical evidence on how Türkiye’s trade measures, despite its Customs Union obligations, have reshaped sectoral trade dynamics. These findings indicate that Türkiye’s non-tariff protection measures against third countries under the Customs Union framework lead to trade-diverting outcomes in favor of the EU during its integration process.
