Summary/Abstract: The study explores possibilities for developing reading and writing literacy in school-based literary education in relation to the revised Framework educational Programme for Basic education (FeP Be), which has defined reading and writing literacy as a core literacy since January 2025. Reading and writing are conceived as interrelated processes that enable pupils to achieve a deeper understanding not only of literary texts, but also of the lived world and of themselves. The theoretical part of the study is based on the assumption that a conscious understanding of the principles of literary creation, derived from reflective reading, is more beneficial for the interpretation of literary texts than intuitively conceived creative interpretation. From this perspective, creative writing is understood as a tool that supports the cognitive, aesthetic-emotional, and metacognitive dimensions of literary reception. The applied part of the study presents a teaching concept based on the didactic interpretation of Jan Werich‘s authorial fairy tale O rybáři a jeho ženě (The Fisherman and His Wife), designed in accordance with the curricular objectives of the revised FeP Be and structured according to the constructivist E–U–R learning model. The proposed teaching concept was empirically tested in a lower-secondary class of a multi-year grammar school.
