Applying Music Education Methods to Develop the Skills of the Alpha Generation

Summary/Abstract: This study aims to examine the changed communication habits of the alpha generation and to highlight correlations that influence the development of this generation's social skills. Due to the many hours spent in the digital space, this generation's relationship with communities is no longer based solely on personal interaction. However, this process affects the social skills development of the digital generation, such as empathy, cooperation, responsibility, conflict management, and problem-solving. The increasingly frequent and rapid processing of short video clips on social media inevitably influences how this generation processes information, and these changes are already noticeable in the educational materials students are expected to learn. In educational sociology research, it is imperative to reflect on social and labour-market changes in educational methodologies. Taking all this into account, the spread of digital tools and the increasingly frequent use of artificial intelligence-based programmes in the workplace make it even more necessary to pay closer attention to the development of Generation Alpha children's soft skills, in addition to their hard skills. My goal in this study was to find an early development opportunity for members of Generation Alpha that could be incorporated into the primary school curriculum, thereby creating equal opportunities for children to develop the skills in question at an early age. Therefore, I sought to create an innovative solution that could be made available to all primary school children without significant changes to the curriculum.
