Summary/Abstract: The invention of the internet in the second half of the 20th century constitutes a significant turning point in human history. From this period onwards, digitalization, the development and rapid spread of new media technologies have significantly transformed our daily practices. Especially with Web 2.0, communication has shifted to a virtual environment, the “digital universe,” through user interaction. Internet linguistics, a discipline that examines the transformation of language under the influence of the internet, emerged as a result of these effects. Internet linguistics focuses on the theoretical analysis of language and the applied study of new forms of language use and the meaning-making process specific to the digital world. This study examines the development process and research topics of internet linguistics in Russia. While addressing the fundamental approaches of Russian internet linguistics at a theoretical level, this study also presents concrete examples of new language uses specific to RuNET, the research area of this discipline. Within the scope of the study, examples of mixed Russian-English language elements specific to digital communication (Runglish), words and expressions specific to the Padonk jargon, and symbolic communication elements such as pictograms/ideograms are illustrated in the form of tables. The main objective of this study is to introduce the body of knowledge regarding Russian internet linguistics to Turkish linguistics and to contribute to the development of a comparative and interdisciplinary perspective for examining the transformation of language under the influence of digitalization. In this respect, the study is considered to constitute a starting point in the construction of internet linguistics as a new research field in Turkish linguistics.
