Summary/Abstract: Throughout history, women have remained secondary in political, economic and social spheres due to the traditional roles shaped by the structure of patriarchal society. These inequalities have led women to struggle to win their fundamental rights; the acquisition of political rights in particular has been a critical step on the road to equal citizenship. But despite legal gains, the political representation of women is insufficient both numerically and qualitatively. This is considered a reflection of gender inequality in the political sphere. The limited participation of women in decision-making processes prevents not only individual rights but also gender-based justice from taking place on a social scale. In this context, the political representation of women is not only a matter of democracy, but also a multidimensional issue in terms of ensuring social justice. While gender roles directly affect political representation; women's relationship with politics is shaped by structural conditions rather than individual preferences. This study considers the process of political representation of women with the perspective of gender; it offers a multi-layered analysis of political structures, women's movements, national and international initiatives. In addition to obstacles, opportunities and support mechanisms are also evaluated. With the analysis made through the example of Turkey, the place of women in political life is discussed in the historical context; the importance of their equal and effective participation in political decision-making processes is emphasized.
