Summary/Abstract: The translation of specialized texts presents challenges, particularly when rendering technical jargon within a literary context. This study focuses on the Turkish novel Kitab-ul Hiyel (1996) by İhsan Oktay Anar, a hybrid work that combines fiction, history, and ingenious inventions. Therefore, our corpus comprises a wide range of specialized terms, primarily drawn from engineering and maritime studies, while also covering various other fields such as music or culture. By adopting a text linguistics perspective, we try to understand the influence of text types on the translational choices in the French and English translations. In this respect, drawing upon Katharina Reiss's theory, we examine how the specific characteristics of these text types influence the translators’ decisions regarding the technical jargon. Our results indicate that cultural constraints and the demands of the different text types have a significant impact on the translation strategies adopted. This study, therefore, emphasizes the importance of an integrated approach to translation, combining the tools of text linguistics and translation studies, to fully grasp the complexity of specialized text translation.
