POSTHUMANIST TRACES OF DIGITAL VIOLENCE IN THE NOVEL HOMEVIDEO

Summary/Abstract: This study examines Karin Kaçi and Jan Braren's youth novel Homevideo from a posthumanist perspective. The suicide of the novel's protagonist Jakob, resulting from cyberbullying, is evaluated in terms of Rob Nixon's concept of ‘slow violence,’ the ‘digital agency’ approach based on Actor-Network Theory (ANT), and Rosi Braidotti's concept of the ‘posthuman subject.’ In this context, the study evaluates Jakob's tragedy not merely as a psychological breakdown, but as a process that unfolds over time within a complex network in which digital technologies play an active role as agents, eroding the subject's physical, mental, and social integrity. In this respect, the study defines cyberbullying as a form of ‘digital slow violence,’ revealing that digital technologies are not passive tools in this process but actors that play an active role in the production of violence. Viewed from this perspective, digital violence is a multi-layered form of attack directed at the hybrid existence of the posthuman subject, which is intertwined with technology. The conceptual approach of the study offers an interdisciplinary perspective on youth literature criticism and discussions on the concept of violence in the digital age.
