Summary/Abstract: This article examines housing policy in Gdańsk during the first decade after World War II. A system of command housing management was in effect at the time, involving strict housing rationing. Individual parts of the text discuss the dispersion of housing, accommodation management, and methods of acquiring living space, including renovations, overcrowding housing accommodations, and the construction of the first workers' housing estates. Furthermore, the port character of Gdańsk and its impact on housing are highlighted, as well as the social unrest over living conditions that followed the outbreak of the dockers' strike in 1946.
