Summary/Abstract: Following the Nord Stream sabotage in the Baltic Sea, as well as the growing need to protect communication lines between strategic commanders, NATO has intensified its efforts to establish and implement a new political and military instrument at the level of the Alliance. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the security of submarine cables and pipelines, while also developing an improved mechanism for monitoring and assessing potential threats addressed to the critical undersea infrastructure (CUI). Despite certain limitations and the complexity of this sector, NATO, through its operational capabilities, remains the primary actor capable of deterring and preventing attacks against CUI. Romania represents a key stakeholder in the advancement of critical infrastructure in the Black Sea region, given its strategic position and vested economic and security interests.
