Summary/Abstract: This article presents problems related to consumer protection in the financial market. The complexity of the problem is centered around the issues discussed below. The new regulatory-supervisory paradigm, called the Basel Consensus, replaces the Washington Consensus that has been in force since the 1980s. The assumptions of the new paradigm are to attribute the fundamental importance of the macro-prudential perspective and public risk management to ensure the safety of the entire financial system. New regulations and regulations that bring changes in the functioning of the financial market are increasingly paying attention to the protection of consumer rights and interests. As a result of the discussed law of 5 August 2015 on the handling of complaints by financial market actors and on the Financial Ombudsman is to facilitate the way consumers to claim their rights in disputes with financial market entities. Transformation of the institution of the Insurance Ombudsman in the Financial Ombudsman has expanded its competence. Since then, its activities include the banking and capital market, in addition to the insurance and pension market. The Ombudsman's assistance is based on giving advice, interventions, conducting amicable proceedings and, where the settlement is impossible, serves to support court proceedings.
