Summary/Abstract: Geopolitics as a cause of initiating wars has been known since antiquity, yet it began to acquire scientific justification from the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries onwards, and started to be regarded as one of the causes of warfare. In the following century, it underwent a significant renaissance. After the Second World War, the role of superpower was assumed by the United States and, for a certain period, also by the USSR. Following the collapse of the bipolar global security system, the United States became the dominant leader for several decades. From the 2020s onwards, the Russian Federation joined the rivalry, followed by the People's Republic of China, while India has for some time expressed - albeit still cautiously - its own aspirations. The assumption of the presidency by Donald Trump and his geopolitical approach revived the competition for global leadership, even involving the potential use of armed force. This, in turn, led to the emergence of a widespread anxiety regarding the outbreak of war - even a global one.
