Summary/Abstract: The theory of the state today has developed from a variety of disciplinary perspectives and is subject to a myriad of theoretical approaches. The state has changed with time and in this article the author indicates how the concept of the state in political science has reflected it. The article focuses on the contemporary state theories. The author claims that a “new wave” of theories of the stateis changing our understanding of the state and results in the fundamental re-evaluation of politics, power and the state. The author puts particular emphasis on the cultural turn in the theory of the state and tries to examine how the globalization debate and the emergence of the globalization perspective in social sciences have affected the theory of the state.
