Summary/Abstract: Over the past several decades, research on migrant transnationalism and transnational families (TNFs) has expanded considerably, with qualitative approaches playing a central role. These methods are particularly suited to capturing complex, dynamic and multidimensional relationships among family members across national boundaries, offering rich, contextualised accounts of lived experiences and giving study participants a voice. This paper presents a literature review of 275 qualitative studies on TNFs published between 2018 and mid-2023 in journals indexed in Scopus, WoS and ERIC databases. Drawing on the systematic review database and targeted screening, the paper identifies dominant qualitative methods, examines how they are applied across different migration and family contexts, and reviews the strengths and limitations of various qualitative approaches reported by authors.
