On the Search For Quality in Education – Based on Selected Criteria and Pedagogical Theories of Selecting the Content of Education

Summary/Abstract: This article provides a theoretical reflection on the issues of knowledge and school content in the context of the challenges and needs of contemporary education. Its aim is to draw attention to the need to reexamine pedagogical theories regarding the selection of content and the criteria for setting requirements for school knowledge. As the analyses demonstrate, both the concepts themselves and the reflections of their authors remain relevant today. This may prove extremely useful in ongoing debates on the direction of change in education. It is certainly worth revisiting these ideas, as many of them could provide an excellent basis for seeking solutions for modernizing curricula.
