Summary/Abstract: The research problem addressed in this study concerns the system of in-school grading used by PE teachers in the subject of physical education. The specific problems focused on the question of what dispositions of students are subject to P.E. assessment and for what components of each disposition teachers most often put school grades. The study was limited to the population of students and teachers of secondary schools in the city of Krakow. Stratified random sampling proportional to the sample size was used. The study was conducted in the school year 2023/24. The method used was a diagnostic survey, and the research tool was two survey questionnaires for self-completion by the respondents. The first questionnaire constructed and tested in a pilot study for physical education teachers. The second questionnaire was constructed for students so that responses could be compared with teachers. A total of 1213 people were surveyed, including 44 physical education teachers and 1169 students. The study omitted to divide the sample by the gender of the respondents. The results of the study clearly indicated that students were assessed most often for motor skills and attitudes toward physical culture. Slightly less frequently for technical skills, and very rarely for knowledge of physical culture in general. Motor fitness is assessed by means of fitness tests that have been functioning in the school reality for years. The results of the study lead to the reflection that motor fitness is still one of the main criteria for grading from the pre-motor physical education subject. This is despite the introduction of legislation on grading in PE, the introduction of the „Sports Talents” program, which was designed to monitor the fitness of students, and the preparation of future teachers in the course of academic studies in the art of grading.
