Summary/Abstract: This article proposes a twofold understanding of what constitutes the monastic ensemble of Frumoasa in Iași: built heritage, a historic monument protected by law and restored through European funding, and living heritage, an active monastic community, bearer of an unbroken spiritual tradition. Proceeding from the distinction between these two dimensions, the study seeks to demonstrate that the restoration of the built heritage attains its full meaning only insofar as it serves and safeguards the living heritage, that is, the liturgical life and the monastic rule (typicon). The ensemble of Frumoasa Monastery gathers together a history of more than four centuries, eminent spiritual figures, the status of historic monument, and a recent restoration project funded through European means.
