Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on measuring informal adult learning, a phenomenon that is difficult to define and quantify in survey research. Despite its prevalence, informal learning presents a research challenge due to its diverse forms, unclear definitional boundaries, and rapid changes in adult learning methods driven by digitalization. The values of indicators that measure informal learning, calculated from surveys such as the Adult Education Survey (AES) or the Human Capital Study (BKL), vary significantly, making it difficult to estimate the scale of adult involvement in skill development. The article focuses on comparing the values of informal learning indicators calculated from two editions of the BKL survey, where the impact of modifications to the content and format of questionnaire items on the results became particularly apparent. It also refers to the results of the AES survey and the tools used therein. The analysis points to a strong dependence of indicator values not only on the content and format of the questions, but also on the influence of context, including introductions that help respondents recall experiences with an educational character.
