Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the concept of actively open-minded thinking and its significance for the development and functioning of students. It elucidates this issue by highlighting its fundamental importance for critical thinking. Simultaneously, it attempts to systematize the knowledge regarding this cognitive disposition, indicating its two core components: the ability to transcend one's own perspective (cognitive decoupling ability) and the willingness to consider perspectives other than the favoured one (motivational aspect). It also presents the regulatory consequences of open and flexible thinking for learning, memory, and comprehension of phenomena among students. As a result of the literature analysis, the paper provides practical guidelines on how to cultivate open and flexible thinking in students.
