Summary/Abstract: The article presents the Integrated Qualifications System (IQS), its origins, assumptions and significance for the state policy to support lifelong learning. The first years of functioning of the IQS raise a number of questions, including those about the accuracy and completeness of the solutions introduced by the Act on the IQS and the consistency of actions taken by the state to encourage adults to acquire and confirm new competences. Many of them remain unanswered today. There is a lack of research from which one could obtain clear recommendations for practice. The text refers to strategic, European and national documents, available research reports, as well as scientific studies in which one can find premises justifying the intensification of state actions for lifelong learning.
