Mixed Methods Research – Building the Methodological Credibility

Summary/Abstract: In this article, the author explores the notion of methodological credibility of so-called mixed strategies in social science research. Based on the analysis of the literature, the author presents the typology of the strategies used by researchers of avoiding Thomas Kuhn’s conception of the incommensurability of paradigms. Further, he characterises various typical practices of mixing quantitative and qualitative data. In conclusion, he affirms that the divergent approaches to linking quantitative and qualitative data employed by European and American researchers stems from cultural differences.
