Summary/Abstract: The paper is about the image of «The Time of Troubles» on pages of American and British dictionaries, encyclopedias, reference books published during the 20th – beginning 21st centuries. It shows some Western stereotypes of understanding of the Russian history. The concept of «The Time of Troubles», its chronology, a role of cossacks during the 16th–17th centuries, rulers of Russia (1605–1613) are analyzed in the article. Special attention is paid to Wikipedia as a new form of scientific communication.
