Summary/Abstract: This article aims to determine whether and to what extent reducing food losses and waste may be considered as an effective means of implementing the right to adequate food and sustainable food security in international law. The analysis examines the evolution of the right to food and the concepts of food security and food sovereignty, as well as international instruments and programmes, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The author demonstrates that food losses and waste may weaken food availability, access to food, the stability of food systems, and the implementation of the principle of sustainable development. The author concludes that reducing food losses and waste should be understood as a measure that supports the realisation of the right to food and sustainable food security, particularly when accompanied by broader systemic changes.
