Summary/Abstract: Teaching religion in school is the subject of debate: why not teach religion within specific religious denominations rather than in school? In answering this question, the author refers both to the arguments arising from the right to religious freedom, which is guaranteed by a democratic state, and to the statements of young people (high school students) who themselves justify the need to meet religion on school grounds, where they learn about the world together with their peers. The author analysed the statements of high school students and drew several important conclusions, which on the one hand indicate the awareness of young people regarding their religious upbringing, and on the other hand, reveal the conditions that should be met for young people to want to participate in such lessons. Engaging in a dialogue with young people in determining the topics of classes seems necessary if their presence is taken seriously.
