Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article are the categories of goal, purpose and purposefulness. They have been analyzed in aspects of their definition, divisions, attributes and justifications. The text contains information on contemporary changes in the understanding and evaluation of goals and purposefulness. Selected consequences of the collectivistic, individualistic and personalistic understanding of both categories were also indicated.
