Citizenship education in pre-school and in grades 1-3 of primary school

Summary/Abstract: This paper explores the subject of citizenship education in relation to pre-school and early school education. It starts with demonstrating how the definition of the essential characteristics of citizenship education has evolved, particularly in Polish pedagogical theory. Against this background, the paper delves into the intrinsic considerations and possibilities of providing citizen education to the youngest participants in the educational reality as they enter its institutional levels (pre-school and primary school). There is a certain scarcity of pedagogic research on the subject of citizenship education at this level of the child’s development. This paper attempts to highlight the need for pedagogy to inquire into this subject area.
