Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with a qualitative analysis of body-based metaphors in Serbian and Russian, with the aim of examining the linguistic conceptualization of existential experience. The analysis is based on a limited corpus of lexical and phraseological units relevant to the observed metaphorical orientations. Particular attention is devoted to the conceptualization of suffering, emotions, internal states, and the subject’s relation to external circumstances and transience. Similar conceptual models are present in both languages, but Serbian more frequently emphasizes the dynamics of movement, whereas Russian places greater emphasis on endurance, stabilization, and the internal regulation of experience.
