Summary/Abstract: The paper examines concepts and expressions related to the sensory experience of taste in the Serbian and Hungarian languages. While the perception of the surrounding world is a universal human capacity, the mental representation and conceptualization of sensory experiences are largely shaped by the language through which these concepts are expressed. The aim of this study is to identify, through contrastive semantic analysis, the key similarities and differences in the linguistic expression of the gustatory concepts ‘sweet’, ‘salty’, ‘sour’, and ‘bitter’, which are traditionally regarded as basic tastes in both Serbian and Hungarian. The analysis will consider the etymology of these terms, their denotative and connotative meanings, their conceptualization, as well as their occurrence in phraseological units.
