Summary/Abstract: Generally speaking, language rights essentially constitute an important part of the fundamental human and civil rights relating to the use of language in all spheres of social life, both at the private (personal) and the broader social (public) levels. This paper examines the status of the Bosnian language through the prism of legal assumptions and their application in practice. Particular focus is placed on international standards for the protection of language rights, as well as on the domestic constitutional and legal framework guaranteeing the equal use of the Bosnian language in the Republic of Serbia. Methodologically, the paper is based on an analysis of relevant legal acts regulating the use of language in public life in Serbia, as well as the level of achievement of the rights of members of the Bosniak national community in Serbia in this regard. The research shows that, although clearly defined normative foundations for the use of the Bosnian language exist, their implementation in practice often encounters institutional and political obstacles that call into question the realization of the rights of the Bosniak people in an area that is crucial for the preservation of their national identity as a whole. Based on the analysis, the conclusion is that a more comprehensive resolution of the status of the Bosnian language in the Republic of Serbia requires more consistent implementation of existing regulations and strengthening awareness of the importance of language rights as a fundamental component of human rights and social equality at all levels, as well as the improvement of the existing legal framework to ensure more effective realization of the principles of equality and non-discrimination as universal principles of the international legal order.
