Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the practical application of the theory of aesthetic education in contemporary theatre pedagogy in relation to pre-school groups. On the example of the “Bocianica” project the article shows the methods of theatre pedagogy, which at the stage of pre-school education implement the theory of aesthetic education created by Professor Irena Wojnar. In the first part of the article the basics of the theory of aesthetic education are presented, including the attitude of an open mind and its components. In the next part, the concept of theatre pedagogy is explained and the project “Bocianica” is presented, which involved conducting a Workshop for Children’s Creative Expression. The workshop consisted of weekly meetings of a group of four-year-olds, which included activities of a theatrical, artistic, and musical nature, aimed at introducing the child to the world of aesthetic values. The essence of the workshop was to move away from the typical form of conducting theatre activities for children, which are characterised by a pre-imposed script. The next part of the article analyses the course of the “Bocianica” project in the context of the theory of aesthetic education, indicates the means of artistic expression used by children and the way of working with them based on: starting from the needs of the group, the subjectivity of the participants, the dialogue, spontaneity, improvisation, introduction to aesthetic values, shaping cognitive competences, imagination and sensitivity to the world. The article concludes with a summary emphasising that the application of the assumptions of the theory of aesthetic education and the methods of theatre pedagogy made it possible to introduce children to the world of aesthetic values, while at the same time giving them a sense of agency and showing them that every experience, idea and inspiration is important and possible to include in a jointly realised creative activity.
