Summary/Abstract: The Bosnian linguistic area has always been a crossroads of significant historical and cultural events, and as such, it has been continuously exposed to the influences and contacts of various cultures and civilizations. These influences and contacts inevitably left their mark on the Bosnian language, particularly on its lexical layer. Bosnian epic creation demonstrates the full layering of the lexical heritage of the language: research conducted on a selected and representative corpus has shown that, alongside inherited words, this body of work contains Turkish loanwords of Turkic origin, as well as Turkish loanwords of Arabic, Persian, Greek, Latin, Hebrew, German, Sanskrit, and Ruanruan origin; additionally, there are Italianisms, Germanisms, Graecisms, Hungarianisms, and Latinisms, as well as words of Albanian, Avar, French, and other origins.
