Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the functioning of 14 formalised open academies operating at universities in Poland. The qualitative method of data collection known as searching secondary sources was used. This method analyses documents produced by the surveyed institutions and their units. Open universities in Poland are currently the main centres of open education for people of different ages, regardless of their origin, economic status, religion, or gender, etc. Through such universities, children, youth and adults can improve and supplement their knowledge as well as improve their own general and professional competences. This is extremely valuable in an era of dynamic social and demographic change, which also obligates our society to step up its efforts to implement the concept of lifelong learning.
