Summary/Abstract: The concept of a certaine date has its origins in the Ancient Period. The notion of time was extensively regulated by jurists in order to prevent uncertainty in legal relations. During the medieval period, seals and official marks were used and played an essential role in the authentication of legal documents. Subsequently, in the Modern Period, royal chanceries and notarial registers developed as increasingly sophisticated mechanisms for ensuring the reliability and traceability of legal acts. This evolution continued into the Contemporary Period, marked by the codification of the institution in the Napoleonic Code and the Romanian Civil Code of 1864. Finally, the Digital Era has brought about the emergence of electronic signatures and has required the adaptation of traditional legal principles, such as opposability and publicity, to contemporary technological and legal mechanisms.
