Summary/Abstract: "In this presentation, our proposal is to analyze one of the most important themes when approaching the work of Alfredo Bryce Echenique. Given that he is one of the most prominent writers of the post-boom, it is essential to outline a brief overview of the characteristics of this literary movement, which are present in his novel La vida exagerada de Martín Romaña. The post-boom is a movement in Latin American narrative that emerged between the 1960s and 1970s as a reaction against the Boom. This current is directly linked to the literary and cultural sphere of Latin America. Unlike the Boom, which was characterized by a very complex style, the Post-Boom stands out for the following key features, which are clearly reflected in the story of Martín Romaña: the use of humor and irony, as The Post-Boom uses laughter, parody, and exaggeration (hyperbole) as tools to reflect reality; Another important element is the focus on the individual, so the works don't seek to explain grand historical problems, instead, attention shifts to the character's inner world, exploring loneliness, love, melancholy, and the feeling of returning from exile. All these traits define Bryce Echenique's unique style in La vida exagerada de Martín Romaña, as the protagonist recounts his failures, his loves, and his political and ideological contradictions. He always does so with a confidential, exaggerated, and profoundly funny tone, demonstrating that humor is also a valid form of social and personal understanding."
